Compact Narrow Web Flexographic Printing Press
Idyllic FN - is a series of multipurpose, multicolor narrow web flexographic presses of central impression design. Idyllic FN can be equipped with finishing units of various purpose. Idyllic FN - are economic and compact presses with direct drive of central impression drum.
Presses of this series are designed for printing of multicolor images on web materials, using additional special colors (pantones), and allow (provided necessary optional equipment is installed) doing the following operations together with the printing in one pass: die-cutting, stamping, lamination, sheeting, perforation, UV-varnishing, trimming, slitting.
As experience shows, this kind of presses - is the most effective for production of labels, sausage casing and similar small packaging.
Multipurpose, reliability, and ease of maintenance coupled with minimum requirements of printer skills - are the main advantages of these presses. Idyllic FN can be equipped with additional UV-printing units or UV-varnishing units. In combination with finishing units it gives an operator practically unlimited opportunities for choosing optimal technologic variants, how any order should be produced. The solid construction of all Idyllic presses, along with quality and accuracy of manufacture, guarantee highest reliability and perfect printing quality.
Idyllic FN presses can be designed for printing with alcohol-, water-based and UV inks. Idyllic FN presses are designed for printing on flexible packaging, i.e.: aluminum and backed foil, plastic films (BOPP, LDPE, LLDPE, Cast PP, PET), coextruded films, laminated materials, paper and cardboard.
Printing press design
The press has planetary design up to 8 color sections are located around central impression drum, (further CID) on machine may be installed 2 CID total amount of printing stations may be 16 and printing possibility may be up to 16+16. Finishing sections (options) may be installed in line. Design with CID provides a compact work area with easy access to printing sections and time decrease for adjustment. Press design is double supported (all feeding rollers, printing sections, CID have double supported fixtures). Only unwind/rewind spindles are fixed with brackets. Frame thickness is 30 (40) mm. Double supported design provides high stiffness of press and work stability.
Module design allows press equipping with additional finishing sections and/or unwind/wind sections on-the-run.
The press is equipped with three drives: the main drive, the chill roll drive and the rewind drive. All drives are asynchronous AC motors with frequency (invertor) control. Main drive rotates CID (axle-wise through gearbox) and finishing sections. Printing sections are driven by central helical gear fixed on CID from operator side.
The press consists of the following main units: printing module, module of unwinding-finishing rewinding module (for addition of required finishing sections such as die cutting, printing, laminating and so on this module is divided simply on separate modules), tunnel dryer, fans and dryers heating units, electric box.
The press is equipped with three-zone automatic tension control system. There is a dancing roll in every zone signal from which is transmitted to the system of tension control. Use of dancing rolls provides effective work both with elastic and rigid materials. In case of die-cutting section is used during work with self adhesive materials web is driven past dancing roll in the drying zone.
The press with standard building is equipped with intermediate dryer and with power tunnel dryer by hot air. Dryers by hot air used in press allow regulate both air temperature in dryer and speed of blowing web off. All this permits to receive higher effectiveness of drying in comparison with IR-dryers usually installed in printing presses of similar design. As a result Idyllic FN may do the following:
- print at higher speeds;
- apply primer on first (on one or two) sections;
- apply varnish on the last section;
- work on thermo shrinking materials with rather low shrinkage temperature at the beginning (for example, some types of sausage casings, plastic films).
Construction of Idyllic FN press has some advantages in comparison with classic printing presses of linear design:
- Work with wide spectrum of thicknesses of sealed materials without quality loss;
- The highest accuracy and stability of driving not dependant practically from printing speed;
- Lower way of material driving which causes to minimum materials waste during adjusting and edition printing;
- Module design and versatility;
- Compactness.
The press is ergonomic, simple in control and ensures high quality of printing constantly with minimal demands to printer qualification.
Printing station
Idyllic uses central impression drums of German origin, manufactured by Drink&Schloessers Company - the main supplier of central impression drums for flexography in the world. The highest manufacturing quality at factories in Germany renders it possible to achieve minimal, up to 10 mcm, of total cylinder radial beat, to decrease surface roughness up to 23 mcm and to apply chrome protection coating, over 150 mcm, on a drum surface.
All color stations are equipped with highly efficient chambered doctor blade systems. Doctor blade change is very easy and its complete disassembly takes a minimum of time, and is executed without tools.
Each station has longitudinal and transversal register adjustment without press stoppage.
Plate and anilox rollers mounting supports are fixed and moved in precision linear guides.

A video control system of printing quality can be mounted optionally on the last color station at the web delivery.
Unwinding-finishing-rewinding unit
In the unwinding unit the web tension is provided by electromagnetic powder brake clutch, controlled by dancing rollers.
Automatic web side guide system renders it possible to effectively process slippery substrates.
Idyllic FN is equipped by web splicing table and electrostatic elimination device.
Finishing units - up to 5 units - can be installed optionally.
Idyllic FN rewinding unit is equipped with one rewind shaft driven by A.C. asynchronous motor with inverter control. This motor provides rewinding web tension according to signals from dancing rollers. Web electrostatic elimination device is already installed. It is possible to mount a second rewind shaft and web side guide system as options.
Drying system
Hot air dryers in Idyllic FN render it possible to adjust as air temperature, so web air blowing speed. Thus, higher efficiency effect of dryers can be achieved, in comparison to IR-dryers, which are usually used in presses of this type. Therefore, Idyllic FN is able to:
- print at higher speed;
- apply primer on first (one or two) sections;
- apply varnish on the last section;
- work on shrink substrates with low shrinkage temperature (e.g., some types of sausage casing, plastic film).
UV-dryer can be installed optionally after the tunnel dryer.
Press control system
Idyllic FN is equipped with digital control system with programmable logic controller (PLC). All main adjustment and control functions are located on a press central control panel, positioned on printing unit operation side. Central control panel has the following functions:
- switching ON/OFF the press and its various units;
- choosing of necessary working modes;
- adjusting of working speed;
- choosing of dryer temperature and speed modes;
- switching of printing stations.
Control panel has:
- printed repeats counter;
- actual dryers air temperature indicator;
- printing speed indicator.
